Organizations That Deal with Hepatitis

International

  • British Liver Trust.  ""Welcome to the British Liver Trust, the national charity for adult liver disease.

Information is the lifeblood of our work and we endeavour to inform, support and advise people who are concerned about or living with liver disease, to enable them to make informed decisions about their lives.

The charity seeks to advocate on behalf of these groups of people, increase awareness and understanding, as well as fund medical research into the causes and treatment of liver disease.

We hope that you will find this site helpful, informative and inspiring and that you will support us as we address such a significant challenge.

In line with many other medical charities, we should like to be able to provide a 'helpline' service for individuals with queries related to liver disease. Unfortunately we currently do not have the resources to do so. Callers are respectively asked to note that we cannot, unfortunately, respond to individual medical enquiries."

United States

  • American Association for Liver Disease.  "For generations, AASLD has been a catalyst for the investigation and treatment of liver diseases. AASLD upholds the standards of the profession and fosters research that generates improved treatment options for the millions of patients with liver disease.

As the leading organization focused solely on advancing the science and practice of hepatology, AASLD offers scientific educational symposia developed by leading hepatologists. Each event offers Continuing Medical Education (CME) and features expert speakers presenting the finest data in the most current and critical topics of liver disease. Only AASLD events meet the increasing demand of hepatology's growing importance as a medical specialty by providing participants the opportunity to exchange research, discuss outcomes, and interact with colleagues focused on liver and biliary diseases."
  • The American Liver Foundation.  "The American Liver Foundation is the nation's leading nonprofit organization promoting liver health and disease prevention. ALF provides research, education and advocacy for those affected by hepatitis and other liver-related diseases."
  • American Liver Society.  "To help with the current national epidemic of liver diseases, liver deficiencies, and liver syndromes through research, advocacy, awareness, support, and information for those affected, or those that may become affected by a liver problem."
  • CDC Viral Hepatitis Web Site.  "The Division of Viral Hepatitis is the Public Health Service component that provides the scientific and programmatic foundation for the prevention, control, and elimination of hepatitis virus infections in the United States, and assists the international public health community in these activities."

Regional

California

  • The California Hepatitis C Task Force.  "The California Hepatitis C Task Force will develop and improve existing HCV prevention, education, treatment, testing and reporting practices. We will support policy that removes barriers and provides incentives to improve the quality of care for persons with Hepatitis C, and that prevents new cases of the disease. We will report our progress to the California public annually."
  • California Hepatitis Resource Center (CHRC).  "The goal of the CHRC is to provide diverse, high quality references about viral hepatitis through the identification of information and applications already developed by myriad organizations throughout the state and the country."

Illinois

Chicago

  • Center for Addictive Problems.  "Our mission, since 1976, has been to provide the highest quality, cost effective care to opiate dependent individuals (persons addicted to heroin or opiate-like analgesic medications), based upon addiction treatment research and as well as clinical experience informed by our practice. In the early 1990's the mission expanded to include the outpatient medical treatment of alcohol abuse.

Our treatment philosophy embraces accepting patients for whom they are, as people, and not judging them by their disease or diagnosis. CAP's care respectfully fosters the highest level of health and global functioning which is possible for each patient. At CAP treatment facilities, addiction is recognized as a medical disease. We believe that the psychological problems and negative social consequences which can result from any disease, including addiction, will improve with effective medical treatment.

We treat opioid dependence and alcohol abuse as brain dysfunctions that can be treated with medical interventions aided by supportive, cognitive-behavioral or psychiatric therapies appropriate for the assessed needs of each patient. CAP's practice is in accord with the medical model of treatment which has demonstrated its efficacy in so many other Axis I Disorders."  Note: Pages within this site were not viewable with Internet Explorer 6, but were viewable with FireFox1.
