  • Westwind Eating Disorder Recovery Centre.  "Westwind provides counselling and treatment for individuals suffering from anorexia, bulimia and related disorders in a home-like atmosphere, significantly different from the institutional format of traditional hospitals and clinics. Treatment is collaborative rather than imposed, uses various interactive techniques and is individualized and personal.

Eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia have been recognized as serious problems for the past few decades, and the incidence of these disorders is on the rise. These disorders are multi-faceted and require treatment that is specialized and individualized. This is what we provide at our treatment center. We are not a general center attempting to treat many different mental health issues. We specialize in treating only eating disorders, and our size allows us to be very individualized in our treatment.

There are only a handful of facilities in North America that we are aware of, with the specialized intensive treatment and range of services that we offer, while avoiding an institutional format. We offer a high quality, professionally run program that relies on evidence based forms of treatment. We focus on meeting your needs in a warm, supportive, caring, and tolerant environment, that is unconditional in its response to your rate of recovery."

  • Anorexia & Bulimia Center of Hawaii.  "Prior to the 1980s, women and teens who struggled with food, fat and dieting issues, or more serious eating disorders, had few choices for treatment in the islands. The Anorexia and Bulimia Center of Hawaii (ABC) was co-founded by Dr. Anita Johnston in 1982. ABC became an information resource center as well as a treatment center designed for women and teens. The Center's staff consists of a variety of professionals working together to provide individualized treatment for eating disorders.

At the center of the ABC philosophy is the psychology of women and the importance of women following their own inner guidance. The staff of ABC help women to recognize and honor their feelings, intuition, and the innate wisdom of their bodies.

Through ABC women can learn to eat for physical rather than emotional reasons and discover how foods can act as metaphors for deeper issues. They can re-envision a new body image and create new relationships with food and their bodies, in essence, becoming more aware, balanced and whole.

ABC offers individual therapy, group therapy, psycho-educational workshops, and public speaking. Treatment coverage is available through HMSA and other insurance carriers, as well as on a sliding scale.

The Center is located in downtown Honolulu..."

Anybody that is suffering from an eating disorder such as anorexia, bulimia, and compulsive overeating needs to have unconditional love, acceptance and forgiveness. They also need to learn how to forgive themselves, and forgive others that may have abused or harmed them. We do not believe force will change those suffering from eating disorders. Force does not work. It can drive the eating disorder deeper and deeper. Instead of force, we at The Center, provide an atmosphere of acceptance where change can take place. • Milestones in Recovery Eating Disorders Program.  "Milestones provides residential as well as day treatment programs for individuals suffering with Compulsive Overeating, Bulimia, Anorexia, and related disorders. We are a therapeutic community whose mission is to offer a supportive environment from which to begin a new way of life... a life way we refer to as 'recovery.'

Milestones follows a 'blended' approach to treatment - addressing both the 'addictive' and emotional aspects of an eating disorder. Residents attend a full schedule of group and individual activities during the day as well as participate in various support groups during evenings and weekends. Grocery shopping, meal preparation, and 'real world' experiences are an integral part of the program. Unlike a traditional hospital environment, Milestones affords an opportunity to recover in a less restrictive setting while still receiving the support and structure necessary to overcome the tyranny of an eating disorder.

Milestones accepts both local and out of area residents, with most of the program's participants coming to us from throughout the United States as well as internationally. Located in South Florida, Milestones is near two major airports serving the area as well as in close proximity to a variety of resources and attractions."

  • Monte Nido Treatment Center.  "In 1996, after having treated eating disorders in a variety of settings, I opened the first Monte Nido treatment facility near my home in Malibu, California. Having run hospital eating disorder programs I knew I wanted to offer something very different. I wanted to provide a healing environment and a top notch treatment program. Monte Nido became that place and its achievements have become larger than anything I could ever have imagined. Now Monte Nido has other affiliate programs, both residential and day treatment, and continues to grow due to its resounding success.

All of the Monte Nido residential programs are homes located in beautiful serene settings, which promote tranquility and connection to nature. Our locations significantly contribute to providing a healing environment. Each program accepts only a small number of clients, allowing for highly individualized treatment, which I believe is crucial for optimal growth and long-term recovery.

Finally, an important factor of Monte Nido's success and one reason why people say they choose Monte Nido over other options, has to do with our use of "recovered" staff. Originally I was unaware of the impact this feature would have. By disclosing my own recovery and referring to it in my books, and in the Monte Nido literature, I have attracted numerous qualified, compassionate and strong staff members who have recovered from their own eating disorder. We also have excellent staff members who do not have an eating disorder history. I do not believe that personal recovery is a criteria to be an effective eating disorder therapist. However, openly using recovered staff has been overwhelmingly positive. All our staff members offer hope that being fully recovered is possible and we model lives where food, eating, exercise and weight are in proper perspective, showing our clients that full lives are possible.

The contents of this website describe what is common to Monte Nido and its affiliates. To receive details regarding specific programs and locations, other information, or just to talk, please contact our main office at 310-457-9958.

    Respectfully,
    Carolyn Costin M.A., M.Ed., MFT.
    Executive Director."

  • Shoreline Center for Eating Disorder Treatment
  • Suburban Center for Eating Disorders and Adolescent Obesity.  "Eating disorders are serious, potentially life-threatening problems that often manifest in adolescence. Many young men and women are unhappy with their bodies and the way they look, and may respond with severe dieting and other drastic measures to change their appearance.

While not everyone who diets has an eating disorder, a disorder does exist when the person becomes obsessed with food and weight and his/her entire self image is based on appearance. When left untreated, serious medical and/or psychological complications result.

Eating disorders often occur together with other conditions such as depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. Our multidisciplinary team, including a pediatrician, psychiatrist, licensed clinical social worker and nutritionist, is well qualified to address all of these complex issues with therapy, behavior modification and, when appropriate, medication. In addition, family participation in the therapeutic process is strongly recommended. Family members are an important source of support and encouragement.

It is important to get help from qualified medical professionals who can guide and support both the patient and family during treatment and recovery. The sooner the eating disorder can be diagnosed and treated, the better the outcome."
  • Summit Eating Disorders & Outreach Program.  "We believe that anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorder are caused by a variety of psychological, biological, interpersonal, and social factors. There is no one cause of eating disorders, many factors come together to create the conditions necessary for eating disorders to exist..."
