    EBV, also HHV-4, Epstein-Barr virus, the mayor cause of infectious mononucleosis, which may also be causing chronic fatigue and other disorders of the immune system. EBV has also been linked with lupus, lymphomas and other cancers. It causes geneteic mutations in the body.
    CMV, Cytomegalovirus, also human herpes virus-5, HHV-5. It causes mononucleosis and hepatitis. The occurence of CMV is strongly correlated with vascular disease such as coronary artery disease and atherosclerosis.
    Human herpes viruses types 6,7,8 and 9 are associated with disorders of the immune system, especially AIDS.

    HHV-8 is also called Kaposi's sarcoma-associated human herpes virus. (KSHV), which causes a type of skin cancer that occurs most often in people with AIDS."  Yahoo! group.

  • American Heart Association.  "The American Heart Association is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to reduce disability and death from cardiovascular diseases and stroke."
  • Heart Truth National Awareness Campaign for Women about Heart Disease National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI). 
  • National Cholesterol Education Program National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI).  "The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) launched the National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) in November 1985. The goal of the NCEP is to contribute to reducing illness and death from coronary heart disease (CHD) in the United States by reducing the percent of Americans with high blood cholesterol. Through educational efforts directed at health professionals and the public, the NCEP aims to raise awareness and understanding about high blood cholesterol as a risk factor for CHD and the benefits of lowering cholesterol levels as a means of preventing CHD."
  • National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI).  "The Institute plans, conducts, fosters, and supports an integrated and coordinated program of basic research, clinical investigations and trials, observational studies, and demonstration and education projects. Research is related to the causes, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of heart, blood vessel, lung, and blood diseases; and sleep disorders. The NHLBI plans and directs research in development and evaluation of interventions and devices related to prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients suffering from such diseases and disorders. It also supports research on clinical use of blood and all aspects of the management of blood resources. Research is conducted in the Institute's own laboratories and by scientific institutions and individuals supported by research grants and contracts."
  • National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.  "The mission of NINDS is to reduce the burden of neurological disease - a burden borne by every age group, by every segment of society, by people all over the world.
    To support this mission, NINDS:
    • Conducts, fosters, coordinates, and guides research on the causes, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of neurological disorders and stroke, and supports basic research in related scientific areas.
    • Provides grants-in-aid to public and private institutions and individuals in fields related to its areas of interest, including research project, program project, and research center grants.
      Operates a program of contracts for the funding of research and research support efforts in selected areas of institute need.
    • Provides individual and institutional fellowships to increase scientific expertise in neurological fields.
