Organizations

  • Alliance for the Improvement of Maternity Services (AIMS).  "All too often our children's potentials are decided at birth by avoidable birth trauma and injury.

The goal of the ALLIANCE is to bring about a reduction of birth injury and trauma in newborns and their mothers through the sharing of scientific information and public information."
  • American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM).  "ASRM is a voluntary, non-profit organization devoted to advancing knowledge and expertise in reproductive medicine, including infertility, menopause, contraception, and sexuality."
  • Center for the Evaluation of Risks to Human Reproduction (CERHR).  "The NTP and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences established the NTP Center for the Evaluation of Risks to Human Reproduction in 1998 to serve as an environmental health resource to the public and to regulatory and health agencies. The Center provides scientifically-based, uniform assessments of the potential for adverse effects on reproduction and development caused by agents to which humans may be exposed. This is accomplished through rigorous evaluations of the scientific literature by independent panels of scientists.

There is widespread concern among health professionals, environmental scientists, and the public that environmental exposures may be contributing to human reproductive and developmental disorders. Between five and ten percent of couples desiring children encounter problems achieving pregnancy, approximately 35–50 percent of pregnancies are not successfully completed, and 3 to 5% of newborns have major birth defects. The etiology of these problems is largely unknown. There is a clear need for readily accessible, scientifically authoritative evaluations of the human and experimental evidence that adverse effects on human reproduction and development may result from chemical exposures. The Center's goal is to provide such evaluations. A special effort is made to summarize these reports in terms that can be understood by those who are not scientifically trained."
  • Childbirth.org.  "Pregnancy is a very special time in a person's life. Educating yourselves to be good consumers, knowing your options, and how to provide yourselves with the best possible care are essential to a healthy pregnancy."
  • Children Now.  "Children Now is a national organization for people who care about children and want to ensure that they are the top public policy priority."
  • Hypnobabies Network.  "At Hypnobabies Network, we are a group of caring professionals providing education, support and excellent natural products to expectant families before, during and after childbirth. It is our goal that all women learn about their birthing choices, become empowered to take responsibility for their own pregnancies, births and babies, and truly enjoy the amazing beauty of childbirth.

We consistently maintain updated resources for pregnancy, natural childbirth, breastfeeding, midwifery, attachment parenting and natural living as a gift to all who visit our site, encouraging an innate bond between the external world and our all-knowing spontaneous inner selves."
  • Pregnancy.org.  "We're built by parents for parents. We've banded together to build a website to educate, empower, and connect ourselves, other parents, and people trying to become parents. We're doing this out of our love for children, and our desire to do our best raising them to become good adults. We believe parenting is a sacred responsibility, and that education and communication will help us fulfill this responsibility the best we can."
  • Teratology Information Services (TIS).  "Teratology Information Services (TIS) are comprehensive and multidisciplinary resources for medical consultation on prenatal exposures. TIS interpret information regarding known and potential reproductive risks into risk assessments that are communicated to individuals of reproductive age and health care providers."
  • U.S. Food and Drug Administration Pregnancy Exposure Registry.  "What is a pregnancy exposure registry?

FDA defines a pregnancy exposure registry as a prospective observational study that collects information on women who take medicines and vaccines during pregnancy.

Enrollment requires that the health of the baby be unknown to reduce bias. Data collected on babies born to women taking a particular medicine are compared with babies of women not taking the medicine. These studies provide important information the effect medicines have on fetal development."
  • WomensHealth.gov.  U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.  "The OWH was established in 1991 within the US Department of Health and Human Services. OWH coordinates the efforts of all the HHS agencies and office involved in women's health. OWH works to improve the health and well-being of women and girls in the United States..."
